I was so surprised to see a one-star review that I felt I must weigh in with my own experience with this tumbler.I have been using my Lortone 33B tumbler for about 8 years. It works flawlessly. The only thing I have had to replace is the belt, which stretched beyond adjusting. That seems like normal maintenance to me. I am a second grade teacher, and my students LOVE it when I get out the tumbler each year. I use it continuously for about 3 months each school year. I believe that the way I use it is actually harder on the tumbler than if it ran full time, as mine spends so much time just sitting.
I purchased extra barrels for mine so I have one barrel for each tumbling stage: coarse, medium, fine, and polish. Plus, I use a separate colander and pail for each stage to reduce chances of contamination with the coarser grit sizes. I get GREAT results.
I would definitely NOT classify this machine as a toy--it clearly says on it that it is not a toy. Educational, yes; toy, no.
