Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge Reed & Barton fan. I received many of their crystal pieces for my wedding and have an absolutely gorgeous flatware holder that I purchased (also on Amazon, please see my review as this product is ABSOLUTELY flawless and incredible. It was $150 and is the most unbelievable piece I have ever received in my life).I like this chest. I can't say that I love it, only because I am used to their flawless pieces. This is a very good chest, don't get me wrong, but it is not an unbelievably crafted piece like all the others I have received.
Pros:
- The top opens to reveal a nice, deep area for storage
- Hidden area for necklaces in the back with a cover for it so you can't tell there are necklaces until you move the hidden compartment (hard to explain but a nice touch).
- Nice, suede-like material lines all compartments and drawers
- Two drawers (instead of one). The first has three vertical compartments for your bracelets and watches, the second drawer has compartments for your earrings and an area behind it for whatever.
- Not too wide
Cons:
- Doesn't lock. These days, jewelry boxes really should lock. Just sayin.
- Drawers come out easily. My flatware R & B piece has heavy, solid drawers. Perhaps this is how jewelry chests are supposed to be, I'm not sure, but the drawers are light and movable, not heavy and sturdy.
- Ok outside. It is a wood finish but it does not have any brilliance or shine to it. That doesn't make it bad, it just doesn't have a lustre to it.
I would NOT return this ever, however. I was dying for a quality chest that had two drawers so I could easily find my pearl or diamond studs without having to open the top, etc. The top part I save for the good jewelry.
All in all, this is a B+ quality chest. Reed & Barton is well known for their attention to detail and fabulouslness and this piece is very close to hitting the mark but is not quiiiiiiite there. I do enjoy it though.
Hope this helps!
