Product Feature
- Size does matter. Demonstrate the principles of optics and mirrors.
Product Description
This extra-large parabolic mirror makes demonstrating optical principles a snap. Demonstrate the reflection and focusing of light, heat, and even sound. A discussion of shapes and uses of satellite dishes can be visually demonstrated. The mirrors extra-large size makes your demonstrations easy to see and understand, even from the back of the lecture hall. The silver-backed, non-aluminized mirror measures 24" in diameter and is supplied with an aluminum frame, mounting bracket, and base. The surface has been highly polished for accurate reflection. Order them and see why Professor Peter Kinsler of Howick College said, "I recommend them unreservedly to all physics and science teachers." Includes demonstration guide. Focal length is 17 inches.Concave Mirror Review
Actual mirrored surface is 21.5" instead of 24. Adjusting mechanism is rather crude, an inverted "J"-rod that you slide the mirror back-mount along to change its pitch, and you need a wrench or channel locks(not included)to tighten the clamp bolt.Good, precise focus judging by the round sunlight spot it makes, and wood smolders and pops into flame quickly.
On a clear July afternoon a small, black, 1 liter sauce pot about 1/3 full would get a little nucleate boiling at the hot spot but wouldn't get to a reasonable cooking temperature after two hours of effort. Focal length seems too short to efficiently focus a second mirror on the pot so probably the best tactic would be insulating the pot sides and lid.(I had already painted the bare aluminum bottom with black muffler paint).
A folding mount system would be nice but it's not too difficult to take apart and store in its box.
Has a "made in New Zealand" sticker on the base but no other indications of who makes it.
