We have a large collection of antique Staffordshire china, as well as Towle Italian and several different Willow patterns from England. We already had one set of flatware, but were looking for something more substantial. After much looking, and a bit of trial and error, we settled on this pattern. The sterling pattern that it is based on is very famous, and rightfully so. The design elements are very classic, and we felt that the central columnar motif lent itself well to complementing our English place settings. I did not want something that was too flowery, and the small floral motifs are very tastefully rendered, and nicely balance the strength of the pieces. The place settings are beautiful, but the hostess set is truly the most outstanding part of this service. The pieces look like they came straight from an antique store. They are the typical pieces seen in a hostess set, but their rendering is superlative. This definitely adds to the !Wow! factor of this service.
I know that a lot of people do not like buying flatware from China, but I was very impressed with the shaping and finishing of each piece in this set. The weight is just right; not too heavy and definitely not unsubstantial or too light. The finish is elegant and smooth, and not tinny at all. Overall a very elegant set, but not too fussy to use for every day.
